BOON were engaged in 2005 to conduct public consultation, prepare briefs and concept designs for new facilities: sports centre and leisure pool for the Buller-wide district.
The pool hall consists of a new eight land x 25m multi-purpose pool, learners’/ hydrotherapy pool, children’s’ pool and seating for 200 people.
The Events Centre is a multipurpose 2 court venue with sprung sports floor. Other facilities include social space, three squash courts, hockey turf, fitness centre, office space, reception and cafe.
Innovative use of both natural and artificial lighting along with references throughout the building to the West coast dialect (whitebait, Nikau and Buller river stones) can be seen on the facades and interiors. This complex provides the region with a centre that will attract both regional national sports and cultural events and has become a significant resource for visitor and community growth in Buller District.
