Bay of Islands
2004
Situated on the foreshore of Opua, Bay of Islands, this terraced house reclines against Pohutukawa with water practically lapping at the front door.
The exaggerated eaves allow the house to be opened entirely by connecting interior and exterior living areas. Despite this, it remains protected from direct sunlight and rain.
Against a monochromatic palette or white and chrome, light is a hero in this design. Throughout the home, glass skylights and strategically placed windows help to define the space.
Although large in footprint, this contemporary home recedes into its nature abundant surrounds.
