The Ngamotu Marae project will be an iconic facility incorporating a traditional wharenui and bring cutting edge contemporary design to its support facilities: wharekai, workshops, ablutions and office spaces.
Once completed, the development will provide a home base for the Ngati Te Whiti hapu, reflecting its past whilst reaching out to the future generations.
Principles of environmentally sustainable design and landscape concepts that boast native restorative planting will enhance the development’s connection with its spectacular historical coastal site.
Following the development of preliminary concepts, BOON initiated the involvement of cultural facility development and fundraising experts to collaborate with the hapu. These partners were able to work with the project steering committee to effectively review the aims and scope of concept proposals and develop an effective business plan for the facility.
Through rigorous critique, multiple hui and continuous design and cost review, Ngati Te Whiti now have a solid basis for culturally and environmentally appropriate architectural and landscape development of the Ngamotu Marae. This was not a rushed process. This has been a considered, inclusive and collaborative process. BOON is privileged to be associated with this culturally significant and historic project.
