This new addition to TCC administration building included a Control Room and a new power station with a technicians office.
The key challenge was to design a building that would enhance the working environment, while providing all technical and operational requirements within a tight budget and plan area.
The new extension offers staff a sense of pride in their workplace. Staff are able to interact more frequently across the different disciplines due to the open plan nature of the development. The Control room has been relocated from a windowless bunker to a building that has good natural lighting. This area has a great view and great airflow enabling shift worker to visually relate to the rest of the site through extensive glazing. The design also offers connection with staff onsite going between the two power stations.
The technicians area has been updated and extended to allow for additional staffing numbers.
Judges citation: “This project is a perfect example of how architecture can be used to improve the culture of an organisation. The workspace has been transformed into a modern, light filled environment and what is a technical building maintains an industrial feel while remaining an office space. The cleverly flicked ceiling catches afternoon sun, while also creating a spacious feel.”
